Leah Fleming - Winter's Children
Winter's Children is packed with interesting characters of all ages. The novel centres around a house in the Yorkshire dales in the depth of winter. We follow a broken family finding healing, while seeing glimpses of the mysterious past of the farmhouse through the centuries. Atmospheric, touching, warming, it is a compelling read with hints of the supernatural. I thoroughly recommend it.
Robert A. Heinlein - Starman Jones
Passed on to me by a friend, I really enjoyed revisiting this novel by the great American Sci-fi author. Originally published in 1953, it shows its age by the fact that the space ship crew is all male, and the women are the pampered wives and daughters. But Heinlein knew that women had equal intelligence to men, and this does come out in his story. That aside, the novel is brilliantly written, convincing, exciting and imaginative. For those who like accessible science fiction, it is well-worth reading.
I would like to wish all visitors to my website the compliments of the season, and the very best for 2016.
