The editor had asked me to describe my heroine for the cover. As an author I always have some sort of idea about how the cover would look. When it's in the hands of a publisher, an author may have some input, but ultimately might be surprised by what they produce. I was thinking of my heroine in her everyday life, dressed casually, with her hair loose. But they have obviously chosen to portray her as a ballet dancer, and certainly the picture gives that impression.
On reflection I am pleased with it, especially as the curtain behind her is a rather attractive shade of peacock blue, which makes a good contrast with the red curtain that I have in the background for the Melody for Lizzie ebook cover. Although, when I looked again at the original paperback cover for Melody for Lizzie, the artist had designed it with a turquoise curtain in the background. Maybe that's going to be some kind of a theme for my book covers!
